As expected, Apple has beefed up its diminutive set-top box with a free software update, adding iTunes Extras, iTunes LP and Genius Mixes, as well as a swanky new interface.
Apple says the new-look Apple TV software is designed to make finding films, music and photos even easier. In addition, it lets you check out the iTunes Extras included with selected movie downloads on the big screen.
Likewise, iTunes LP purchases now show up in full-screen on any TV hooked up to Apple’s box.
5 albums we want to see on iTunes LP
It’s that feature which will likely send most Apple TV owners scrambling to the update button. iTunes LPs bring videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, photos, album credits and more to bog standard albums.
But regular music purchases haven’t been missed out. Genius Mixes are now at home on Apple TV, with the new software automatically creating mixes of songs that fit well together and play endlessly. Internet radio has also been added, and it’s all still controllable either with the standard Apple Remote, or with Apple’s iPhone app.
