UPDATE: It’s official, Apple just wheeled its Apple TV 3.0 software update out the door. It adds a bundle of new features. Check them out here!
iTunes Extras, the DVD-like special features bolted on to movie downloads on Apple’s online store, could finally land on the Apple TV, the destination they were surely meant for in the first place. That’s if the new fineprint Apple quietly let slipped on to its website holds true – read on to see just what’s in store.
We were baffled when iTunes Extras debuted at the September iPod unveiling with no Apple TV support. Surely more people would watch them on an Apple TV than a 13-inch MacBook, right? Now it looks as if Apple has seen sense, as it’s just updated its iTunes Store terms and conditions to include this little gem: “iTunes LP and iTunes Extras Products are usable only on computers with iTunes 9 or higher and Apple TV with software version 3.0 or higher.”
That means you’ll be able to watch all that extra content, as well as browse all the interactive album artwork on iTunes LP, straight from your sofa, and soon!
For those not keeping count, the Apple TV software is still on version two, so Apple TV 3.0 could potentially promise a big overhaul beyond these two additions. What those could be remains to be seen, but the neglected Apple TV needs a serious hug from Cupertino to get its confidence back. Expect an update soon.
