We’ve known Android 2.0 was headed to several new Google blowers for some time, but the big G’s just shown off what it can do for the first time. Want to see Eclair up close in the official video? Read on for that magic play button.
Give the play button a jam and you’ll see the new features Android 2.0 brings to the table, and they’re mighty impressive: there are new APIs for developers to sync lots of different accounts to the phone (Hi, HTC Sense), a new on-screen keyboard, a boosted browser and more.

Our absolute favourite features in Android 2.0 though are the Quick Contacts bar that appears when you tap on a friend’s name: it pulls up every single way you can contact them, like phone, SMS, IM and email, in one line, and it can be integrated into any app too. There’s also a new Bluetooth API which allows for multiplayer gaming – the example in the video showing Android being used as a pong ball between two handsets is genius.
This is just a short taster of what Android 2.0 heralds, and it’s still not clear when it’ll filter through into the market, but we may well find out in just a few days.
