Dell just bulked up its ultra portable lappie by an extra two inches: presenting the Dell Inspiron 13z, a 13-inch machine priced to undercut the new unibody MacBook by almost half!
Dell’s been holding back on the Dell Inspiron 13z and its bigger 15-inch brother, the 15z, until Windows 7 is out, but now it’s pulled the trigger and made the pair official. The Dell Inspiron 13z won’t be bothering the new MacBook when it comes to processor speeds, but the Intel ULV chip caked inside will mean it’ll eke out up to 11 hours of battery on the move.
The Dell Inspiron 13z also packs in a 250 or 320GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM expandable up to 6GB, a HDMI hook-up and a DVD drive, and with the base price coming in at £479, will get you computing on the go much more cheaply than with a MacBook or the new HP Envy 13.

If you’re looking for something more at home on the desk, the Dell Inspiron 15z might be more your cup of tea: it’s got the same looks, but Core 2 Duo chips, dedicated ATI graphics and a stonking 10 hours of juice if you opt for the 9-Cell battery, with prices starting at just £499.
Both the Dell Inspiron 13z and the 15z are on sale on Dell’s UK site right now, so head on over if you’re looking for a Windows 7 laptop and start customising your own rig.
