Amazon Kindle comes to PC

Amazon KindleThe Amazon Kindle isn’t just an e-reader. It’s Amazon’s whole eBook library too, and the online giant wants to get you hooked on that digital pageturner on as many platforms as possible. Now to complement the Kindle iPhone app, Amazon is prepping a program for PC too!

Microsoft demoed the Kindle PC app at a Windows 7 launch event in New York yesterday. It’ll work on XP and Vista too, and will let you link your PC and screen as another device on a Kindle account, so you can read a book on your iPhone on the bus, then transfer it over to read on your desktop at work. And if you’ve got one of the new fangled Windows 7 touchscreen PCs, you can pinch zoom in and out of text too.

Exclusive: Kindle DX international launch next year

We still prefer the lack of backlighting on an e-reader or a good old fashioned book, mind, but Amazon says the Amazon Kindle PC app will be available in November, with Mac and BlackBerry versions due soon, so watch out for those in the coming months.
