GoogleGoogle is busy preparing to launch a brand new service that should have everyone from Spotify to Sky in a fluster: a music portal. Is Google Audio just around the corner?

According to TechCrunch’s inside sources, Google is in talks to shore up content from major music labels ahead of launch. Nothing has been confirmed, but one tipster has called the service Google Audio, and it will launch in the US at least soon, though it’s not known whether it will offer music downloads, streaming, or a mix of both like Napster and Sky Songs.

Whatever it is, the chances are it won’t be like Google’s Chinese music service engine, which hunts out free tracks to help yourself. We’ll shout up as soon as any more details on the Google tune app arrive, but the Silicon Valley start-up blog says its launch is “imminent”, so expect them soon.
