Apple’s gradually phasing out the old Fisher-Price plastic white look of its lower end Macs and goodies with its latest line: not only did the white 13-inch MacBook get a facelift, but the Apple remote just got the aluminium coating. Say hello to your new unibody, universal Apple remote.
The new Apple remote is a predictable move by Cupertino – we’re semi-surprised it still has buttons – but the polished black and silver look is every bit as slick as the MacBook Pro line it echoes.
Touchscreen Apple remote a hoax
Functionality wise nothing has changed: the Apple remote will still work with Front Row, and to get it bossing your iPod about you’ll need an iPod Universal Dock and one of Apple’s portable jukeboxes with a dock connector, while your Mac will need to be 2005 or later with an IR receiver sewn in.
Apple says the new Apple remote will ship within two to four weeks, so expect to see it shining in stores around the same time as the Magic Mouse.
