Asus Android phone mockupAsus has been quiet on the Android front since shelving its Google Eee PC seen earlier this year, but the Taiwanese tech giant is once more ramping up its Android plans, promising an Asus Android smartphone before year is out!

Asus is a member of the Android Open Handset Alliance, but it’s one of the few hardware manufacturers signed up that has yet to make good use of Google’s slick OS, the only other exceptions being Toshiba and Sony Ericsson. According to the report, Asus chairman Jonney Shih and CEO Jerry Shen say the Asus Android phone will be unveiled this year. All we can hope is that it doesn’t take as long as the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone to come out.
