The new iMac will not come packing Blu-ray, contrary to previous rumours which said Sony’s HD hero would take pride of place in Apple’s next-gen all-in-one. That’s the word from “people close to the Cupertino-based company”, who have also served up some other juicy morsels on what you can expect from a new iMac.
AppleInsider has spoken to those inside sources, who say that Blu-ray was initially slated to appear on the new iMac. However it was pulled just before the new machines hit the production line last month.
Mac Pro: all new desktop in 2010?
That means those lush 24-inch screens on the new iMac won’t do HD via a disc, reaffirming Steve Jobs’ previous claims that Blu-ray was a “a bag of hurt”. That said, this is a rumour, so expect to hear more tittle tattle ahead of the mooted release of the new Apple monsters later this year.
Elsewhere, other sources says that the new iMac will cram in Intel Core i7 processors, giving them some quad-core action. All will be revealed by the end of 2010. We hope!
