Channel 4Those early reports of YouTube and Channel 4 partnering up have just been rubber stamped and made official. YouTube will soon begin streaming Channel 4 shows like Skins, and even classic shows from the archives like Brass Eye.

Starting soon, Channel 4 will begin uploading thousands of hours of programming on to YouTube for anyone in the UK to watch for free, whenever. By early 2010, YouTube will offer a full catch-up catalogue for Channel 4, plus 3,000 hours of archived classics to enjoy as and when too.

Channel 4 heading to YouTube

Channel 4 already makes many programs available on 4oD, but the Flash-based player means it’s inaccessible on most smartphones. The YouTube move means you’ll soon be able to watch Peep Show on a whole range of mobiles, since YouTube support is now widespread on handsets.

YouTube hasn’t given a precise date for the rollout, but has promised plenty more initiatives between the two organisations in the future, so stay tuned.
