The HTC Tattoo just slipped through the letterbox and on to our doormat, but before we take the tiny touchscreen blower for the full on review treatment, we thought we’d give you a sneak peek of what to expect. Come see the little Android phone that could come out of its box right here!
We’ve known what to expect from the HTC Tattoo thanks to some early hands-on video and a tryout with the identically equipped HTC Touch2 with Windows Mobile, but from our first play, the software change makes all the difference. Even though the 2.8-inch screen is resistive, typing isn’t tricky, and buttons are responsive, unlike the dastardly OK icons on Windows Mobile 6.5. HTC’s Sense skin works exactly as it does on the HTC Hero, with multiple profile screens you can set and swipe across, and we didn’t suffer much in the way of lag flicking between them.
The HTC Tattoo also looks the part, thanks to a smudge resistant case, though you can always make your own if you feel like a challenge, and 3.5mm audio, 3G, GPS, a microSD slot and Wi-Fi round off a package that’s looking very promising for the future of cheap smartphones. We’ll be back with more on the HTC Tattoo shortly, but in the meantime, get a close up look in our unboxing gallery right here!
