Cyberbike

Forget Quarterback controllers and yoga mats: the Nintendo Wii is about to get its very own exercise bike. The full-size peripheral will come as part of Cyberbike, a new game which is due to land in January 2010, timed to reel you in just as you finish that last mince pie and heave yourself off the sofa after Christmas.

Cyberbike will let you pump your legs around 18 circuits. But don’t go thinking this will be on a regular bike, like the one in Wii Sports Resort. The developer Bigben Interactive says it’ll instead involve, “some of the most improbable vehicles ever imagined.”

On top of all that exercise, you’ll be cleaning up pollution as you go, giving Cyberbike a nice hippy flavour to boot.

But the best news has to be Cyberbike’s compatibility with other games, including MarioKart. Nailing Donkey Kong while riding along on a bike in front of your telly certainly gets our New Year’s fitness vote.

I’m excited for this! How different will it really be from a regular exercise bike at the gym though? And how will it be compatible with Mario Kart?

That’d be absurdly brilliant. Does it lean?
