Remember the Sony Ericsson Yari? It almost got lost in betwixt the Sony Ericsson Satio and Aino powerhouse phones unveiled back in May, but the motion sensing gaming mobile is nearing launch too, and we’ve got our hands on one for a go. Is it the mini Wii we were hoping for? We’ve yanked it from its cardboard crib to find out.
Even without its gaming USP, the Sony Ericsson Yari is a respectable slider: the 5MP camera, GPS, sharp screen and beautiful, Nokia N96 style form factor make it much more desirable than its other recent sliders. But the big news is the “gesture gaming”, so you can play bowling with a throw of your arm, just like in Wii Sports.
We had a quick play with the Sony Ericsson Yari’s preloaded games, including Fitness, Bowling and Tennis. Fitness sees you executing squats and yoga exercises in front of the Sony Ericsson Yari’s camera, which keeps count, while the sports games are much more frantic affairs that see you flailing wildly. It’s surprisingly responsive and accurate for a phone, but the major problem is finding somewhere to prop the phone up to play.
We’re off for some more rallies, but have a look at our unboxing gallery of the Sony Ericsson Yari, and keep it right here for a full Sony Ericsson Yari review shortly.
