One of Google’s directors has jacked in his job at the search giant in order to stay on the board at Apple. The move comes as the two tech titans are squaring up in a fight for smartphone and cloud computing supremacy and follows the Big G’s Eric Schmidt‘s decision to leave the Apple board earlier this year.
Arthur Levinson is the Google director in question. With Apple and Google coming under pressure from competition watchdogs in the US government, his choice has led to commendations from Washington, with the Federal Trade Commission saying it welcomed the move.
Google CEO Schmidt resigns from Apple board
So why should gadget fans care? Well, Apple and Google are now making products which directly clash, contravening laws in the US. The looming battle has already reared its head, with Google Voice being rejected for the App Store. On top of that rumours are rife that Apple and Google colluded to prevent multitouch coming to the first slew of Android phones.
This resignation means that Google and Apple should start clashing more frequently in future. The only link between them now is former US Vice President, Al Gore, who sits on Apple’s board and acts as an advisor to Google.
