Dyson-Air-Multiplier-hands-

We spent the morning having our hair blown about by the new Dyson Air Multiplier. Now we’ve taken a break from our 80s music video dreams and taken some hands-on photos. Take a peek, and see why we’re so taken with its blade-free design.

The Dyson Air Multiplier might have a whizzy name, but it deserves one. OK, it’s a desk fan, but what a desk fan. The air-churning blades are housed in its base, directing air to an over-sized hoop up top, but the really clever bit is in its aerodynamic abilities.

Dyson Air Multiplier bladless fan blasts off!

See, the Air Multiplier actually pushes relatively little air around, but that little whisp of wind uses the magic of physics to pull in surrounding air, meaning the force of Dyson’s input is multiplied by 15 times.

Fire it up, and the Dyson Air Multiplier is pretty powerful, and provides a constant flow of air, unlike blade-based fans. There’s an oscilation switch to make it spin from side to side, and a speed control to vary the strength of its gusting.

Check out our hands-on photos and stay tuned for the full unboxing experience shortly.

I wonder what the power-consumption is compared to a normal fan, and whether this could also be deemed an ‘eco’ product; with limited moving parts to create friction I expect it may. Could we not fly Harrier Jump Jets with this technology???
