LG Solar Cell e-readerThe LG Solar Cell e-reader isn’t your average electrical paperback: it’s an e-reader with a solar panel slapped on the side, so it’ll charge as you read outdoors. Is this the best holiday gadget ever invented for sunny climes?

LG Display already churns out 6-inch e-reader screens, but it’s just developed the LG Solar Cell to fit perfectly next to it. The LG Solar Cell is just 0.7mm thick and weigns a mere 20g, so is nigh on unobtrusive, but the big deal is that five hours of sunlight will extend the LG Solar Cell e-reader’s battery life by a full day.

That would make the LG Solar Cell-reader the perfect device for travelers and beach bums, as you wouldn’t have to worry about lugging a mains adaptor or finding an internet cafe with a spare USB port: the LG Solar Cell e-reader just wouldn’t run out of battery, like the Bluetooth headset we saw last week.

Unfortunately, there’s no immediate plan for mass production, but LG hopes to get the solar panel efficiency up to 14% by 2012 for “commercialization”. Just so you know though, LG, we’d buy the LG Solar Cell e-reader right now.
