LEGOLEGO makes everything better. LEGO makes phones better, camcorders better, and even rhythm based music games more fun. And now for one group of lucky students, it makes going to school better too: the first LEGO education centre has opened in a UK comprehensive school, so teens can look forward to Mondays, and learn science with minifigs!

Stockley Academy in Uxbridge, Middlesex, is the first school in the country to open a LEGO education centre on site. It’s aimed at getting kids to enjoy science, technology and maths, letting them cobble together their own robots, then programming them. There are more than 140 similar LEGO classrooms across Scandinavia, which come with LEGO training materials, a community website and uncomfortable-sounding LEGO furniture.

“We believe that gaining competencies in certain technologies is key for our students’ future success, and that the LEGO Education Centres will provide them not only with great skills but also inspiration and scope for development,” said Aftab Ahmed, director of ICT services at the Academy. We’ve no doubt they will, but we just wish we had an excuse to play with bricks when we were in high school.
