At last, the Palm Pre is on UK shores and working like a dream. We’ve managed to lay our mitts on this iPhone-killer to see if it really can do the business and give Palm a belated go at Apple’s blower here on Blighty’s shores. Keep reading for our first impressions and our massive gallery of the mighty Palm Pre in action.
Clasp the Palm Pre and you immediately know you’re dealing with a serious smartie. All of the phone’s apps and features sit in a simple, multi-page menu. However, when you’re within an app, hitting the main select button won’t actually quit the app, but rather will take you back to the task manager-like home screen where the app stays open as a snapshot.
Multi-tasking is ace and really shows the way for the iPhone. Ok, the number of apps just can’t compare with the Apple App Store or even Android Market, but the Palm Pre shows real potential in this direction.
The iTunes sync is back and working like a dream. Apple’s tried to cut this feature off before, but this is a war that Palm’s winning, at least for now. And on a purely cerebral level, the Palm Pre itself is verging on beautiful. The screen is genuinely gorgeous, and we wouldn’t mind watching a film on it , even if it is only a shade over three inches across.
Take a peek at the gallery and see the Palm Pre in action now. Be sure you come back later this afternoon for our definitive review too.
