We may not be getting the Zune HD in Blighty anytime soon, but we could still be getting Zune music services: Microsoft has said it’s looking at bringing Zune to mobiles. Read on for all the deets.
According to Jose Pinero, Microsoft’s director of communications for TV, video and music, Microsoft’s next step with the Zune music and video service would be to bring it to Windows Mobile phones (and maybe other platforms), though there are no dates yet.
“Our next step is mobile phones, but we haven’t talked about a timeline for when that will happen,” he told ZDNet’s Maro Jo Foley. Windows Mobile would be the first logical step for Zune on phones, especially since the new look Today screen in version 6.5 takes a lot of its styling from the Zune media player layout.
Windows Mobile multitouch incoming!
In the US, Microsoft offers a Zune Pass subscription service, which lets you listen to all the songs you like while you pay a subscription. A Zune video service is headed to Xbox LIVE in Europe this year, so this development could hit our continent too. We’ll be sure to let you know when things get more concrete.
