The head of games retailer Chips has slammed the PSPgo and has predicted the spanking new handheld will “fail miserably”. That in spite of a surge of PSP sales since the console’s launch and prices already on the right side of £200. Read on to see just what bad mouthing is going down.
Chips’ main man Don McCabe is not shy of airing his views on the PSPgo. And today he’s offering a full-on assault on Sony’s new effort. “I’m 99.9 per cent sure it’s going to fail miserably,” he said. “In which case it’s going to put back other potential people coming into that digital space.”
McCabe goes on to say he had, “…heard from someone at Sony saying ‘this steps our authority on the digital space and signals our intent,’ and actually what I think is that they’ll scare the c**p out of anyone else who tries to follow.”
On the other hand, McCabe says the PSPgo will be good for stores, as he believes it will keep sales of games and trade-ins for the PSP 3000 buoyant.
Interestingly, Chips is selling the PSPgo for £229, £30 more than Amazon, Play and HMV. While strong views on the PSPgo continue to be aired, the proof will be in the sales figures after Christmas and how it stacks up against the Nintendo DSi and the ever popular iPod touch.
