Phishing attack: Gmail hit too The phishing scam that led to thousands of Hotmail account details being posted online could have affected many more webmail services than first though: Gmail, Yahoo and AOL mail users are also believed to have been affected. Read on for the full details.

Microsoft confirmed that more than 10,000 Windows Live Hotmail account log-in details posted online were real, but there had been no breach of data, pointing to a con or “phishing” scam. But the phishing attack is believed to have hit the whole industry, with even giant Google confirming Gmail accounts had been affected.

“We recently became aware of an industry-wide phishing scheme through which hackers gained user credentials for web-based mail accounts including Gmail accounts. As soon as we learned of the attack, we forced password resets on the affected accounts,” Google said in a statement.

It’s not clear just how many accounts have been affected by the phishing attack in total, but if you’re worried you’ve logged into something dodgy recently using your webmail creds, we suggest you change your password pronto.
