Samsung Omnia 2: hands-on with Windows Mobile 6.5

We first went hands-on with the Samsung Omnia 2 way back in June, but now the ultra powerful OLED machine is back, and this time, it’s sporting Windows Mobile 6.5, with a tailor made skin. How does it handle? Read on for first pics and thoughts!

We were wowed by the Samsung Omnia 2′s 3.7-inch OLED screen the first time round, and that dazzling display hasn’t changed one iota: this time though there’s Windows Mobile 6.5 slapped over the top, with a better browser, My Phone cloud back-up and more.

We’re not going to go so far as to praise Windows Mobile 6.5, but the Samsung Omnia 2′s interpretation of it was by far the best we tried today: it’s banished the horrific grey boxes Microsoft seems to dig in favour of colourful, cheery, and above all easy to prod icons, and even the honeycomb menu screen is gone, replaced by Sammy’s traditional TouchWhiz grids.

The Samsung Omnia 2 is out now, so check it out in its final form close up in our hands-on photo gallery right here before grabbing your credit card.
