PowermatUPDATE: Seems the 15th October is when lucky American power junkies will get their mitts on the Powermat. We’re still waiting for a firm date on this side of the pond, so stay tuned and we’ll bring it to you as soon as Powermat gives us the nod.

The Powermat wireless charger promises to make filling up all your boys toys’ with electrical juice a cable and chore free doddle, so for eager gadget heads, we’ve got good news: we now know when it’ll hit shop shelves. Want to know how much it’ll cost to cut the cords from your life? Read on.

Never mind about how much the Powermat looks like the new Tony Hawk Ride controller, the reason we’re excited about it is the promise of one pad with one plug to charge all your gadgets simultaneously. The Powermat works via the same contact charging tech as the Palm Touchstone, but powers many more devices, including BlackBerrys, Nintendo DSs and even iPhones, and it’s going on sale on 15 October in the US.

Both home and travel versions of the Powermat will hit stores Stateside then, and will work with any gadgets Powermat makes a receiver for, to make sure it charges each gizmo for the correct amount of time. We’ll be getting a hands on with the Powermat shortly, so keep a keen eye out for our first impressions of this wireless wizard. In the meantime, look forward to its launch in the UK later his year for a reasonable £69.99.

I have a normal phone ( skypephone s2 ) will this still have the same effect and charge it ?

I immediately thought of the Tony Hawk Ride board myself :) If only it had solar charging capabilities too. then we’d be talking. Pretty cool though! But something tells me this is one to try out before purchasing.

We’ll be testing it out in the very near future Stephen, so we’ll report back.

Can’t wait to see it in stores. I thought the release was scheduled for late fall, but sounds like we have an early Christmas self gift! It is bit pricey though. I need to buy those charging receivers separately I guess

That’s the problem with working retrospectively I guess. But someone’s got to make a start somewhere standardizing things so kudos to Powermat I say.
