psp-go1Itching to get your hands on a PSP Go!? Well the deal just got a little sweeter. PlayStation Network honcho Eric Lempel has announced a hefty new PSP firmware update and its best feature is confined to the PSP Go.

Using the PSP Go!’s built-in Bluetooth capabilities, you’ll be able to tether it to a Bluetooth-capable mobile phone. Do that and you can use the phone as a wireless modem to leach internet access when you can’t find a WiFi hotspot.

Meanwhile, all PSPs are set to SensMe, the mood-based music player which will generate playlists according to how you’re feeling. Put together a “rather stoked” playlist for us then won’t you Sony.

An update for Sony’s MediaGo software for transferring Playstation Store items and media between your PSP and PC is out today, just in time for the PSP Go!’s arrival.

I love what Sony is doing with psp software. The games are getting better and the addition of Minis and digital comics sounds great. But at the end of the day, the psp go is just a lite version of the psp 3000. Just like the DS and DS LITE, only with a minor facelift. I could justify paying an extra 30-40 quid, but at nearly £100 more i would expect a larger SSD, a second analogue stick, and a higher ress OLED screen (possibly with multitouch. Sony has struggled to keep up with the DS and the only way will do that is to release a proper, more powerful, sequel to the psp.

Just do a software update when you’re within range of a Wi-Fi hotspot, the PSP should do the rest… although it’s safest to do it while plugged into the mains too.
