A splurge of details on Apple’s mythical tablet have seemingly been revealed. iLounge claims the same source that gave it an early heads-up on the new iPod Nano 5G has spilt the beans.
We told you that Apple has rehired the former architect of its ancient hand-writing recognising Apple Newton but today there’s even more Apple tablet rumourage.
Apple has apparently developed three prototypes for the much heralded device. An early version had a 7in screen but was ditched for being far too small. The final version of Apple’s tablet will have a 10.7in screen for you to prod.
Apple’s sticking to the same aesthetic it’s established with the iPhone 3GS, so we’re told to expect a glossy slab with a curved back. Will that be easy to handle?
Though the looks of the Apple tablet will be similar to the iPhone’s, the screen is gong to pack a seriously improved resolution and a lot more touch-sensitive smarts. The leak suggests it’ll have 5 to 6 times the resolution to allow for HD playback.
The new device will run the iPhone OS but will add new apps and services that will mean it works as ebook reader as well as video player and web browser.
So when will we get our hands on the Apple tablet? Not until May or June 2010 apparently but it’ll be announced at a big event on January 19. Or at least, it will if Steve Jobs gives it the green light. The naughty little leaker suggests Jobs is still assessing the product.
Will Apple’s tablet beat the glossy loveliness of the Microsoft Courier? We can’t wait to watch them fight it out.
