The Zipcar iPhone app to make car sharing even easier was teased back at WWDC in June, but has just quietly rolled on to the iPhone App Store’s showroom floor for any motor-toting iPhone owners to download. You can download it now, even though Zipcar has yet to shout about it, and it’s pretty amazing. Read on to find out what it can do!
Ignore Zipcar’s official iPhone page, which still says the Zipcar iPhone app is “almost here”: have a look on the App Store and you’ll see it’s ready to download and take for a spin, right now. We’ve already done so, and it’s ace.
We raved about Zipcar in our Travel 2.0 feature, but the Zipcar iPhone app makes it even easier to find a car nearby and book it for a spin: you simply swoop in from a map view and reserve with one prod of the screen, or sort autos by categories like time available or model.
Once you’ve tracked down the car, you can honk its horn with a press of your iPhone to locate it precisely on the street, and once you’ve unlocked for the first time, even lock and unlock the car with Apple’s wonder gadget. It’s a bit like having your very own KITT Knight Rider car, except it won’t talk back to you, or flaw bad guys.
We’ll be back with a full Zipcar iPhone app review shortly, but it’s free and available now so don’t hang about, get downloading and take a Zipcar for a spin now!
