charlie-brookerMiss the days of Dominik Diamond shouting at Mega Drive mad kids while Sir Patrick Moore doled out orders in Gamesmaster? Well make sure you tune into BBC 4 tonight at 10pm for Gameswipe. The new show from Charlie Brooker, it’s at last bringing gamer TV back into the mainstream.

Mac–hater Charlie Brooker is well known for his acerbic take on TV, but his love of games remains undimmed. So his new show, Gameswipe, should be a belter. The 50 minute one-off special is part of the BBC’s technology season.

Gameswipe will be familiar to fans of his Screenwipe show, with Brooker taking a sideways look at gaming and the games industry.

Gameswipe is set to be repeated throughout the week on BBC 4, although at the moment there are no plans to get a series underway. But the more of you who tune in tonight, the more likely Auntie is to gift Brooker at least a few more episodes.

Brilliant news. Charlie Brooker is still my favourite games journalist ever, even if he stopped writing for PC Zone a decade ago. Anyone else remember Sick Notes? I miss that.

Ah excellent stuff! Must remember to watch! I wish there were more game shows on TV! I remember coming home to watch Bad influence after school at 4:45pm. And on a Thursday (I think) Gamesmaster used to come on! And then there was Cybernet on a Saturday before Earthworm Jim!! :)

I had a phase of watching that terrible breakfast show on Sky One, where’d they get people like Steps coming on and playing each other at Ridge Racer and Blast Corps. The loser each day would get thrown down a pit. It was pretty diabolical!
