sky-HD-boxSky will finally be hitting the Xbox 360 in “mid-October.” That’s the word directly from Murdoch’s men, with an article in the TV giant’s monthly Sky Magazine confirming the date. So what’s in it for you? Keep reading for every last detail.

Plans to bring Sky to the Xbox 360 were announced with much fanfare earlier this year. And now the service is finally going live in the middle of next month, with Sky even priming an official website, over at sky.com/xbox360.

The page is currently empty, but a piece in this month’s Sky magazine spills all the beans. You’ll need an Xbox Live Gold membership to access Sky Player, but a proper subscription in order to access “premium content”. That means stumping up for full-on packages to get weekly overhyped Premier League clashes.

Details on pricing are yet to be confirmed, although what we glimpsed of Sky on the Xbox 360 at a private viewing at E3 looked rather neat. Movie and sports parties are clever, but the cost is clearly going to be the defining factor.

The October date should mean we’ll also be seeing Facebook and Twitter on the Xbox 360 soon too.

As long as I can access my recorded programs and add programs to the planner I’ll be happy. If nothing else it would be an alternative to Multiroom.

  • Tim

Hmmm, I would like a reduced subscription for Sports only because if I was already paying for a Sky package, what would be the reason to watch on a console over the internet.

Multi room wouldn’t be enough of a benefit because I’m sure most people have their xbox set up on their main big telly

So a Gold subscription AND a Sky subscription. You know what they say, and fool and his money are easily parted..

Thanks but no thanks, I’ll keep my PS3 with free access and iPlayer and PlayTV (freeview).

I’ve never been convinced of Sky’s appeal for non-football/cricket fans, or I wasn’t until HD came along. I’d much rather see Xbox hook up with Love-Film in the same way it has Netflix in the US – that’s a subscription worth paying for in my mind.

  • Dave

I agree with Ben. Get Love-film and it will have won me over completely. other than football (and lost) there is nothing worth watching on Sky. And i can go the pub to watch football so what would be the point of having Sky on my xbox? I read a while ago that it would be free to Sky subscribers. Now all of a sudden there is a price TBA?? I knew there was a catch.

Oh yeah an msg to mark : Ask anybody who pays for XBL and they will tell you that £40 a year is money well spent when you compare it to the free service on the PS3. And i own both consoles so im not a fan boy.
