Samsung 12MP optical zoom phoneOk, so there’s a Samsung 12MP phone on the market already, the Pixon12. It takes great shots – for a phone – but you know what it’s missing? An optical zoom. Not this Samsung snapper cellie though. Read on and say goodbye to your compact for good!

This Samsung 12MP phone’s been spied in South Korea, Samsung’s home turf, sporting a 3x optical zoom so you’ll be able to swoop in without any loss in resolution.

The Samsung 12MP phone you see here is upposedly called the SCH-W880, and is at least due out in SoKo at some point. Whether it’ll get a wider global release remains to be seen but it’s good to see big players looking at other features other than bumping up the megapixels again.

When will consumers realise… it’s not about the amount of megapixels you pack, it’s about the quality. Phone manufacturers should concentrate on (digital) shutter lag, image stabilisation etc, first before bumping up the megapixels. While it may take some great pictures, I would by a smaller megapixel camera with an emphasis on quality and function any day

I agree a decent camera should have a quality lens not the most megapixels, you can get away with a 3 megapixel camera on a phone and have decent pictures, I have just bought the Polaroid Pogo printer for less than £25 and get good quality images with a k800i.

We hear ya – who actually blows up their pics that big anyway? I’m focusing on the optical zoom here though. All things considered, this phone isn’t actually that bulky. There’s a lot of people who’d go wild for this I reckon.
