Click on a point of interest on Google Maps and you might notice something new today: Place Pages. Hitting the More Info button now brings up a whole page aggregating all the info you could ever need, from photos and reviews to directions, and it won’t just do it for business, but for any location in the world!
The new Google Maps feature isn’t such a big deal for businesses: Google Maps already pulled in plenty of content from across the web. But the expanded Place Pages view works for locations too, so you can get all the deets on transport links, neighbourhoods and entire cities too.
The Google Maps Places Pages feature also adds your own URL to a spot, (For instance, San Francisco is google.com/places/us/california/san-francisco-city). The logic behind it is to get people updating their POIs and businesses on Google Maps by enticing them with better layout and a portal to call their own, and we’re hoping it works.
Have a look around now: it’s a nice little touch, especially if you’re looking for a holiday destination or where to get a bite to eat, and almost makes sites like Yell redundant.
