UPDATE: The full list of Vodafone 360 supported phones is here.
UPDATE 2: We’ve had a breakdown of Vodafone 360 from the network’s top execs – more details below.
Vodafone 360, a new suite of online services for your Vodafone phone and your PC, sewing in all sorts of social networking skills, has just been announced. Want to dig deeper and get all the deets on it? Read on and find out.
Vodafone has clearly been eyeing up what HTC, T-Mobile and others have been doing to link up Android with Twitter, Facebook et al, as Vodafone 360 takes the same synergised contact book principle and extends it even further. There’s a status screen which shows updates from your contacts in reverse chronological order you can scroll back through, and you can set up groups to micro manage who you publish anything on Vodafone 360 too (IE work and friend contacts).
On mobile, Vodafone 360 is a proprietary interface that marries Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Twitter, Google Talk and more into your contacts book, Vodafone People. You can use Vodafone 360 to share photos, music and your geo-location with friends and it’s all backed up in the cloud so you won’t lose your data if your phone takes a dip in a puddle.
But Vodafone 360 is also a set of online services you can use on a PC or Mac too, and we’re promised plenty of apps, maps and music platforms. There’s a new Vodafone Shop which will sell 1,000 apps from launch (A 70/30 developer/network revenue split, surprise, surprise, with more promised) along with other “digital content”, but you’ll be able to download and install from other sources still. Vodafone Maps with turn by turn navigation is also included, and you can tag and share your locations and recommendations.
At launch, Vodafone 360 will appear on two new Samsung phones (more details coming) and will be pre-loaded on to four Nokia smartphones (Preusmably Nseries). We’re confirming the ins and outs at Vodafone’s launch event right now so stay tuned for updates.
