The Palm Pre iTunes sync saga has taken yet another twist. The mobile maker is in a spot of bother with the authorities over its flagship phone’s ability to work with Apple’s jukebox software and could yet face legal sanctions. Keep reading for the very latest.
iTunes 9 killed off syncing with the Palm Pre after Apple had said it would, “disable devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre.”
And while the Palm Pre can no longer hook up with iTunes, the powerful USB Forum has rejected Palm’s accusations that Apple misused its USB Vendor ID to kill off the inter-gadget link up.
And to make things worse, the USB Forum says Palm may have broken rules by using Apple’s USB Vendor ID so the Palm Pre would make like an iPod for iTunes. “Usage of any other company’s Vendor ID is specifically precluded,” said a USB Forum spokesperson.
Palm could yet face the full wrath of Apple as the saga continues. In all, it means there’ll be no iTunes link when the Palm Pre lands in the UK.
