The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is RIM’s worst kept secret since, well, the last phone it launched, and we’re not even counting the Storm 2. But even by the mobile messaging champ’s standard, this is unusual: one website has swooped in on a unit and reviewed it already, before it even officially exists. And the verdict? Very, very promising. Read on to see what’s in and what’s out with the latest 3G BlackBerry blower.
Perpetual thorn in RIM’s side, the Boy Genius Report, has scooped a BlackBerry Bold 9700 of its very own when the company wasn’t looking, and only thrown up a full first look. It’s not a completely finalised model but the hardware appears to be baked to perfection, as it looks exactly like the BlackBerry Bold 9700 we spied in a leaked official snap.

Here’s the good news: BGR has nothing but praise for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, lavishing sweet nothings on its keyboard, 480×360 screen, optical trackpad and, surprisingly, its battery life (the 3G original Bold drained juice at a shocking rate).
We’re stoked to hear that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is more than just the US-only Tour with Wi-Fi and a newer trackpad, but the blog held off on fully reviewing the software, for the reason it’s not production ready just yet. A lot could happen between now and November time, so we’ll be sure to bring you a full and final review in time. But er, the prognosis is good, very good.

Cool. I’ve currently got an original BlackBerry Bold and wondering what to plump for next (although i’ve still got about seven months on my existing contract). I’ve always thought the battery life is decent, but then I suppose it depends on how you use it. Not too sure about ditching the trackball for a mini touchscreen like navigator though.
