Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 hands-on!

The Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 is a brand new cordless QWERTY from Redmond with a twist: it’s built completely with the new Windows 7 taskbar in mind. Want to know what it does? Want to see all the pics? Better read on then. Go on.

For those lumped with Vista machines for the foreseeable future, the ergonomic Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 command keys can still be hotkeyed up as per usual, but when hooked up to a Windows 7 machine, it comes into its own.

As well as the standard media and quick launch keys, there are 5 buttons hovering above the function row that correspond to the order of apps running in the taskbar. For instance, if Internet Explorer is minimized second from left, hitting 2 will pop it up for you.

Here’s where the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 gets smart though. If you move the IE window to the first tab along, the hotkey will move with it – so pressing 1 will now fire up the web. It’s a lovely visual touch, especially for those who don’t Alt+Tab their way around on Windows.

The Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 is on sale now, a good few months ahead of the worldwide Windows 7 launch. But hey, if you’re running on the free beta right now, you won’t have any wait at all.
