U2 BlackBerry appThinking of nabbing U2′s latest album? Got a BlackBerry to hand? Here’s something you should check out then: the band’s first BlackBerry album app, with artwork and extra features bundled in, just like an iTunes LP album.

Once upon a time, stadium behemoths U2 were bumping fists with Apple, but the band’s defection to BlackBerry now finds them taking on Apple’s new album format with their own free BlackBerry app.

iTunes LP: first look!

Developed in collaboration with Bono and his gang of eco warriors cum musicians, the U2 BlackBerry app aims to provide a “rich visual experience” that ties in with current album No Line On The Horizon.

That extends to photos, videos, news, lyrics and interviews, with a second phase planned that brings in social networking elements, though how that’ll go down is anyone’s guess.

The U2 BlackBerry app is free to download from here or BlackBerry App World now.
