The HP Envy 13 looked like one of the tastiest MacBook alikes we’d ever seen when it was first announced yesterday, but now we’ve got our hands on the lappy in the flesh so you can see for yourself up close. Keep reading on through for all the pics!
We’ve seen that unibody look somewhere before, but we don’t mind too much if HP is cribbing over Jonathan Ive’s shoulder when laptops like the HP Envy 13 are the result.
Up close, its aluminium coating is all kinds of hotness, and at under an inch thick, the HP Envy 13 is every bit as easy for OS X haters to slip in a bag as a MacBook. Typing is firm and responsive on the island keypad, and the specs aren’t to be smirked at, with a shockingly bright WXGA screen, and a thin slice battery you can bolt on for up to 16 hours of battery life (An extra £179, mind).
HP Envy 13 ultra thin laptop unveiled
In fact, the only downers we’ve found so far are the lack of an optical disc drive, and no backlighting on the keys. Is this the tastiest laptop HP has ever produced? We’d say so, and it’s great to see another PC mainstay get all design conscious of a sudden.
Also on show was the bigger, beefier HP Envy 15, and while it won’t rival a Macook Pro for slimness, it’s got mealy hardware going on nonetheless, including an Intel Core i7 chip and up to 16GB of RAM. The HP Envy 13 and HP Envy 15 wash up on our fair shores with the release of Windows 7, with prices starting at £1,199 and £1,499 respectively, but calls dibs with your eyeballs right here in our hands-on gallery, right now!
