LG-42LH5000

One–upping your pals with tech talk is one of life’s great gadget joys. It used to be hard drive space on your PC and then your phone. Today though, it’s all about how many Hz your TV has. 100? Pah. The LG 42LH5000 has 200Hz, aimed at making pics look even better on its 1080p panel. So how does it measure up? Read our LG 42LH5000 review and find out.

Slap the 42–inch LG 42LH5000 down in your lounge and already you’ll be onto a winner. At £700, it’s an absolute bargain for what it offers. Namely 200Hz images. That means the frame rate refreshes quicker, making it ideal if your idea of a good time is a back–to–back football marathon on Sky Sports HD.

The motion control is superb. We slapped on a DVD of great Spurs goals (no laughing at the back) and the images of Gazza smashing in his famous FA Cup Semi–final free kick were belting. But the LG 42LH5000 isn’t just about 200Hz motion control. You’ll also find a massive 4 HDMI ports, 80,000:1 contrast ratio and Full HD. So hooking up a Blu-ray player and console will still leave you breathing space for future HD treats.

There’s no doubting that the screen on the LG 42LH5000 is super bright. However, stick on a movie with plenty of shady night time scenes and you’ll really notice the niggles. Blacks look washed out and the colours don’t compare well to other TVs in this class.

However, if you’re after buying a TV for next year’s World Cup and are struggling to justify the outlay to your other half, the LG 42LH5000 is for you. Just remember you’ll have to put up with her moans when Jennifer Aniston’s The Break Up looks like its being beamed from an ancient CRT.
