The Sony PS3 Slim and the now cheap Xbox 360 Elite have both given Nintendo a lot to chew over. The Wii is still kicking it, but sales are sliding as punters seek out full–on home hubs rather than neat little games consoles. Which is why Nintendo is said to be planning a Wii price cut for October. Read on for the details.
The chaps at Kotaku have sniffed out plans from Walmart in the US, which show the Nintendo Wii falling to $249 Stateside. That’s £150 over here in Blighty. The price comes from an ad for the US supermarket giant and pegs the cheaper console for early October.
That date ties in with the Kyoto Cross Media Experience, an event Nintendo will be hanging at while the Tokyo Games Show gets down to business. A cheap Wii would clash with plans for a 250GB PS3 Slim, hopefully giving Ninty some much–needed publicity.
The Wii is still a huge deal, but as Microsoft and Sony turn the screw, a cheap and cheerful console could be just what Nintendo needs to maintain the affections of casual gamers everywhere.
