Nokia N900The Nokia N900 net tablet‘s hardware is impressive enough, but its real selling point is the all new, multitasking Maemo 5 operating system. Espoo’s proud of what it can do, and to show it off, it’s launching its very own, Nokia endorsed hacking competition for crafty coders. Want to get involved? Keep reading to find out how.

Nokia’s so keen to show off its open source, Linux based Maemo software for the Nokia N900, it’s encouraging anyone and everyone to take a hacksaw to it and mould it into whatever they like. The guidelines are incredibly broad: all you need to do is demonstrate how you woul connect the Nokia N900 to “something you love”, be it a computer or a fridge-freezer.

Nokia N900: hands-on impressions

Hack away at it all you will, and if the judges (including Nokia and Maemo execs) like it, they’ll give you a Nokia N900, the cash to take your idea further and even showcase it in Nokia’s flagship stores around the world.

The competition is already underway but you’ve got until 11 October to submit your entry, so head on over to the Nokia PUSH N900 blog right now to get your code on.
