Wouldn't you rather be using really well written code made by Google's best engineers rather than the crazy stuff hacked up by some guy who subcontracts for the phone company you've never heard of and was writing firmware for toasters 2 years ago? Okay, admit I'm exaggerating it a lot - but for folks who want a working android phone I suspect that base-android is a good option. Plain android is a really good thing.
