But it seems this touchscreen titan could be the last Windows Mobile blower Son Ericsson rocks, with reports suggesting the mobile maker is getting ready to cut the cord with Microsoft. Keep reading to see just what SE has up its sleeve.

Despite a sleek new design, Windows Mobile is still taking a critical battering from Android and iPhone OS. So Sony Ericsson is preparing to end its stormy relationship with Microsoft according to Mobile–Review’s Eidar Murtazin.

Murtazin, a man known for his impeccable mobile connections, says the Xperia X2 will be the last Sony Ericsson phone to pack Windows Mobile. In the future, he says, the phone giant will work on Android and S60 blowers instead.

Apparently, its all down to how many WinMo cells SE can flog. Murtazin says insiders have told him the, “…sales forecast is bad,” for the Microsoft mobiles. With the Xperia Rachael and Satio just around the corner, such a move would not be a surprise.

This is quite interesting to see Sony Ericsson making this move. I wonder, if it’s a cost per license issue and as the current economic climate is not helping many of the mobile manufacturers they need to reduced costs. Cutting out the cost of the license would definitely benefit them considering they seem to be in a bit of financial trouble at present.

Unless Microsoft takes drastic action, Windows Mobile’s doomed. Not only is it more expensive for manufacturers to licence, but it’s slow too. Even the HTC Touch Pro2, which is powerful and has a meaty battery, suffers because it has to carry the burden of Windows Mobile. Not to mention HTC having to completely re-skin the OS to make it usable by fingertip alone. A shame, but I think Windows has had its day on phones. Bravo Sony Ericsson for being so bold.
