Us Brits are still waiting impatiently for the Palm Pre to land here in Blighty this December. But gadget fans across the pond are already moving on, with the WebOS packing Palm Pixi getting the official green light Stateside. So what’s the deal? And when can we play nice? Read on and we’ll tell all.
While the Pre might look like the don, the Palm Pixi has got just as much mobile phone fanciness going on under that QWERTY keypad. The 320×400 2.63–inch screen is much smaller than its older siblings’ 3.1–inch effort, but it still packs multitouch.
On top of that you get the same sleek WebOS for zipping between apps, support for Microsoft Exchange, Google and an all new Facebook app to boot. Chuck in Yahoo! integration and the Palm Pixi looks like it’ll be slapping down the iPhone and BlackBerry Bold in one slimline package.
Rumour: Palm Pre UK launch on 30th October
There’s GPS, Bluetooth and 8GB of storage inside that 99.5g bod’. And at just 10.85mm, the Palm Pixi’s a darn sight slimmer than similarly specced cells doing the rounds.
So, the big question. When can you get involved? Palm says the Pixi will be in US tech heads hands by December. So the same time we’re getting our first taste of the Pre. And with a six month wait to see that bad boy here in the UK, it looks like you’ll be waiting a while. A Palm spokesman told us this morning, “We’re not giving any details at this time about Palm Pixi availability in Europe ; however, we do plan to bring Palm Pixi [there] as soon as we can and will announce more when appropriate.”
Out December (US), TBC (UK), | £TBC | Palm
