It’s taken the best part of a year, but the Facebook Android app has finally hit the Android Market, offering up all the gossip mongering, stream sharing social networking you could need on the go. Does it beat Facebook for iPhone though? Read on for the deets.
In a word: no. But iPhone Facebook is on version 3 now, and this is the very first official Facebook Android app, so you can’t expect miracles overnight. That said, the Facebook Android app should keep most social butterflies flapping away happily, as you can update your status, check your feed, stalk others, upload photos and look up friends’ phone numbers from the homescreen. And because it can run in the background, you can get notifications too, like Facebook for BlackBerry.
That’s as far as the Facebook Android app goes though: there’s no messaging, and we’re hearing reports of problems firing the Facebook Android app up on the HTC Hero. But these are baby steps people, so expect much improvement on the Facebook Android app now that Google’s embraced the procrastination platform in a big way.
