The Leica M9 sure knows how to pick its date to debut. The sequel to the beautiful rangefinding M8 is gearing up for launch, and all the evidence points to an unveiling this Wednesday. Which just so happens to be iPod day. Whoops. Read on for what to expect.
Leica’s holding a global launch for several new snappers this Wednesday, and while they’ve not been officialy named, they’ve been all but outed by a bunch of gaping leaks. We’re almost certainly looking at the arrival of the Leica M9 (pictured), thanks to a combination of Leica briefly putting its site live, and screens of its Leica M9 brochure cropping up online.

Specs wise, we’re looking at an 18.2MP sensor on the Leica M9, plus reduced noise at high ISO settings, and an SD slot, and it could be out as soon as this week.
The Leica M9 won’t be going it alone against camera-filled iPods though for gadgeteers’ attention: joining it will be the Leica X1, packing a 12MP CMOS sensor and auto focus if you’re just too pressed for all that twiddling.
Expect all the details and more on the Leica M9 and X1 to be made official tomorrow, and for once, expect Apple’s new products not to be the most expensive unveiled that day.
