But while we all get het up about a camera–packing new iPod touch and slinky iPod nano, spare a thought for the iPod Classic. It seems the one that started it all is about to get the chop. Blogger Marco Arment has weighed in with his tuppence worth on what a reinvigorated Steve Jobs will tout on Wednesday. The man who’s almost always bang on the money reckons it’s curtains for the iPod Classic, with its old school frame not able to offer punters access to the App Store.
The idea is to get more punters buying the app-friendly iPod touch, which will get a 64GB makeover. Word is that the iPod nano will drop its 16GB model and stick to 8GB for the next year, at least.
The iPod Classic certainly changed everything. But its 120GB model isn’t doing the business according to official Apple figures. So the game is up and the death of one of greatest gadgets ever is near.
