GTA Chinatown Wars for iPhone a tad too up–to–date for your on–the–go gaming tastes? Then how about a ream of Commodore 64 classics to while away the hours on the morning commute? After Apple’s initial reluctance, the C64 iPhone app has been given the nod. Read on and see just what old–school games will be satisfying your retro appetite.
Getting stuck into The Secret of Monkey Island for iPhone has surely given you an appetite for something even cooler. Handy then that the C64 iPhone app has landed, after Apple rejected its earlier advances for SDK violations.
Now new tweaks mean you can hop onto the App Store now and nab the C64 iPhone app for just £2.99. For the price of a pint, you’ll get 5 games including Dragon’s Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack. Extra games including Commodore Sports Pack I will be landing soon.
It’s a move that makes perfect sense and once again shows Apple’s blower slapping down the Nintendo DSi and PSPgo. Anyway, we’re off to snag the C64 iPhone app now and make like it’s 1987.
Out now | £2.99 | Apple (via MacRumors)

I like the idea in principle – but it will need a better selection of games than those mentioned above if this is going to be worth while. Even then, as a former C64 owner, I’ve let my heart warp my judgement before and the reality of these ancient games often doesn’t live up to the sentimental memories we have. Having said that, if someone can re-do Thrust as it was on the BBC micro I’d buy that for a dollar.
