Sonos is stylish. But not nearly as stylish as the Meridian Sooloos digital music streaming rig, and now it just added another Ferrero Rocher to its pyramid of class: a big old update bringing everything from MP3 conversion to online streaming to give Spotify a run for its money. Read on to see what’s new in Sooloos 2.0.
Until now, the Meridian Soolos 2.0 system has simply been a very expensive, very classy way to rip your CD collection in high quality, and boss it all about with a touchscreen controller so sexy it makes a rumoured Apple tablet look like Janet Street-Porter.

Now though, a big new update turns it into Meridian Sooloos 2.0 and takes your music collection online. You can now log in remotely and start streaming your music through your PC speakers, so if you don’t like the ads on Spotify, you can ditch them.
The new Meridian Sooloos update also adds another nice touch: automatic file conversion to lower quality MP3 so you can shovel your tunes straight on to an iPod, without one song taking up half the memory. It’s a nice touch, as we’re often forced to reconverting our Sonos catalogue to put on a phone manually.
There is still one slightly enormous catch: a Meridian Sooloos set up costs a good £7,000, and that’s not even including installation. Almost makes the Sonos CR200 remote look like a bargain, doesn’t it? Still, with this new update, you definitely get what you pay for.
