McDonald’s ads to air on satnavs

McDonald'sNeed to know where the nearest McDonald’s drive-through is at any given time of day? Can’t be bothered to hunt and peck for all those letters on your satnav to search? All you hungry gearheads are in luck then, as McDonalds restaurant locations will be popping up on a PND near you soon. Lovin it?

NAVTEQ, the map maker that powers the satnavs of everyone from Garmin to Nokia, has just announced it’s planning to slap McDonald’s location on its charts, so you’ll be able to see where you can break your Big Mac fast nearby in an instant.

Now, obviously you’ve always been able to search for Maccy Ds on any satnav worth its salt. But for satnav makers who want, all those McDonald’s franchises will now show up with a golden arches icon on a Points Of Interest map, with drive-through locations flagged up for drivers.

It’s a smart move, we reckon, and one that shouldn’t be too intrusive as it’s not like a McDonald’s logo is any more annoying than a generic plate with some cutlery on, as is par for the course now.

A Nokia Maps McDonalds layer? We’ll let you know if it becomes reality.
