Starting 6 October, Windows Mobile 6.5 phones will start shipping the world over. As well as Redmond’s redone UI, you’ll also find access to Windows Marketplace for apps galore, and Microsoft My Phone for cloud back up (which works on 6.1 too). Whether they’re enough to tear you away from your BlackBerry or iPhone – well that’s a different matter.

Currently, the only phones that are confirmed for Windows Mobile 6.5 preloaded are the HTC Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, but Acer, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba (Yes, you TG01), as well as networks Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile are confirmed partners too, so expect updates shortly from them.
