LG GW880 Android spotted in China

lg-ophone-gw880-7The LG GW880, LG’s new Android handset, has been outed in new pics published by Sina.com.tw. Want to know when you’ll be able to fondle one? Read on and we’ll give you all the details.

The LG GW880 is the latest LG handset to be launched strictly for the Chinese market. Essentially an Android smartphone, local restriction mean that any Wi–Fi capabilities must be removed, so the phone will actually be running OPhone – a local version of the Android OS with, frankly, several of the good bits removed.

Still, this does give us a good idea of what LG thinks should be in a budget Android handset.  The LG GW880 comes with a 3.5-inch WVGA touch screen,  512 MB ROM/256MB RAM, GPS, Bluetooth and 5 megapixel camera with a slimline form factor. Ramp up the storage and make that an OLED screen and it doesn’t look a million miles from the Samsung Galaxy.

It is doubtful if we will ever see this phone in theWest, but not impossible that a slightly beefed-up version, running the proper Android OS, might make an appearance later this year.
